An Important Message from John Denham, Our Founder.

To all our supporters, past and present,

I would like to let you know about important changes in the future ownership and management of the Reserve. As I have been concerned about the future of Pacuare since I have been unable to visit Costa Rica, the trustees have decided to pass the ownership and operations to Ecology Project International(EPI).

EPI is a not for profit American organization who have had a close involvement with the reserve since 2000 when Scott Pankratz, the founder, first brought a group of students. Since then, EPI have brought thousands of US and Costa Rican students to patrol the beach to protect the Leatherback turtles and learn about conservation. We have become close friends and I have every confidence that we have made the right decision in entrusting the future of the reserve to EPI. Our manager Carlos Fernandez and key staff will remain the same.

It has been a wonderful experience for me, but it is definitely time to pass it on.

Saludos,
John Denham

    Hello,
Thank you for inquiring about EPI and our 16-year partnership with Pacuare. To learn more about our work in Costa Rica, you can visit our website: https://www.ecologyproject.org/our-impact/costa-rica. We bring both local Costa Rican students and U.S. students to Pacuare each season to work with the Pacuare researchers and learn about sea turtle and rainforest ecology. We’ve worked with more than 23,000 students worldwide, and several thousand of those have joined us at Pacuare (we have four other programs in Belize, Yellowstone, Mexico, and Galapagos). Please let us know if you have more questions!
    Thanks,
    The EPI Team
