Hatchery building involves: digging and straining sand one meter deep, sifting sand, and building a structure with one half in the sun, one half in the shade.

Short-Term Volunteers (2 days)

This opportunity is designed for volunteers who can stay two nights We understand that many people balance work, family, and studies and are only able to volunteer for a short period, often just a weekend. Many Costa Ricans fall into this category.

We invite you to join this short-term hatchery building volunteer opportunity, contributing directly to the protection of sea turtle nests.

Activities Include:

  • Digging and straining sand one meter deep

  • Sifting sand to prepare nesting areas

  • Building a hatchery structure with one half exposed to the sun and one half in the shade

All activities involve significant physical effort, working outdoors rain or shine. Volunteers must be in good physical condition.

Specific dates available in January–February, when no turtle nesting occurs and hatchery preparation is essential.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old or older, or be accompanied by an adult

  • Must be able to work during the day or at night during turtle monitoring activities

  • Must be in good physical condition and able to:

    • Work in hot, humid conditions

    • Walk up to 12 km (7.5 miles) on soft sand

    • Work flexible hours

  • Ability to complete 6 hours of volunteer work per day (or night, depending on the schedule)

  • Be a proactive person and a strong team player


What We Offer:

  • Boat transportation on check-in and check-out days from the dock to the Reserve and back

  • Meals and lodging in shared rustic cabins with other volunteers

    • No electricity

    • No artificial lighting

    • Shared, non-private bathrooms

  • Orientation and supervision throughout your participation in volunteer activities

  • Active involvement in the Pacuare team to ensure your work makes a valuable and meaningful impact on the project


Contribution program

₡25,000 (VAT included) per person / shared room

Includes accommodation, meals, and boat transportation.
